RE
Religious Education develops student’s comprehension and understanding of similarities and differences within religions. Students are encouraged to ask questions about the role of religion within society developing their understanding, perception and comprehension of different religions and cultures.
Religious Education gives students the opportunity and wherewithal to question and reflect on social, moral, cultural and philosophical issues within society and the world.
Religious Education at KS3
Students study a range of thematic topics allowing them the opportunity to discuss, debate, interpret and challenge their own opinions and the opinions of others. Modules within Year 7 include What does it mean to be Jewish, and Inspirational People. In Year 8 students link the study of Judaism to the life of Anne Frank before undertaking further units that include Buddhism and Religion in the Media. Year 9 students commence a series of components on Crime and Punishment examining the relationships and controversies that exist between various countries legal systems and religion.
Religious Education at KS4
All students in Year Ten follow a core Religious Education programme developing investigative and argumentative skills promoting consideration, respect, and empathy for others. Topics include homophobia, animal rights and British values.
Students studying GCSE RE examine and question a variety of ethical, moral and philosophical issues from religious and secular perspectives, analyzing differing beliefs, constructing complex arguments and evaluating alternatives.
Students examine the belief teachings and practices of Christianity in addition to another world faith.
