Photography
Photography at KS4
During the GCSE Photography course, students will engage in a wide range of learning opportunities that include:
- Understanding and using the various functions of a digital SLR camera
- Understanding composition and producing a high-quality image from a range of view points
- Learning how to use studio lighting to create professional standard images
- Experimentation with photo-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop
- Take part in different off-site activities such as Formby beach and Liverpool by night
There are 3 projects to be completed during the course. The projects are based on a close-up theme, a portraits theme and participation in landscape and cityscape field trips. Pupils produce an evidence-based file which includes research, test shots, photographer information and examples of their editing skills. This file shows the creative journey for each project and helps the students to gain marks towards their final grade.
The final project is an externally set task by the AQA exam board. The students have a 6-week preparation period followed by a supervised time of 10 hours to complete a final photo shoot and edits.
